How to Choose Paint Colors for Your Home Interior
Selecting paint colors
Picking out the color to paint the inside of your home can feel like a daunting task. There are many colors to choose from and many shades within each color category as well. The most important factor to consider is your style and preference.
Consider your style
This is your home, so don’t feel like you have to stick with what’s popular. If you find a color that speaks to you specifically, then go for it! Paint color can add that personal touch to your home and create a certain feeling for everyone that visits.
Unsure of what paint colors to use? Read our other blogs about what paint finish to use in each room of your house and how many paint colors you should use inside of your home. However, keep in mind that these are just guidelines. Follow your gut and pick the color you really love the most.
Consider different rooms
There’s no reason to keep every room in your home the same color. As with most home paint topics, this comes down to your personal style. While some homeowners prefer a cohesive look throughout the entire home, others like to switch it up and use their paint color as a way to express themselves. For example, you may want a muted, bright living room space, but a darker, more sophisticated home office paint color.
Accent walls and pops of color
If you do choose to go with an off-white, light tan, or other neutral color, that doesn’t mean that you have to keep it that way across your entire home. Consider an accent wall or other ways that you can add pops of color to your home.
You can also accomplish this with more interesting or bright colors in other areas such as:
- Doors
- Trim
- Flooring
- Backsplash
- Artwork and accessories
How to test paint colors at home
Once you have an idea of the type of color you may want, it’s time to test it out and make a final decision. The best first step is to decide if you’re going to DIY your painting project or hire an Orlando painting company to handle the work for you.
DIY: Visit a local paint store
If you choose to DIY your home painting job, it’s best to go visit a local paint store and browse the aisles. Find swatches that match your vision and ask the store to take home samples to test out on your walls. You should be able to find an assortment of colors, shades, and styles to test out, but try not to get overwhelmed. It’s best to test out as many paint colors as you want now and make the best decision before painting over your entire home.
Using a brush, apply a small amount of paint to a wall that you are definitely going to paint over. Do this with all of the paint samples that you brought home, and give them a bit of time to dry. The wet paint will have a slightly different color than one that has been sitting for an hour or so. Once the paint has dried, look at it from different angles and distances to figure out which one you like best.
Work with an Orlando Painting Company
If you want a job well done without having to worry, work with a local painting company. They’ll be able to guide you when it comes to your home paint color decision as well as providing samples for you to see before making a decision. Then, just pick out a color and let them handle the rest.
